And holy moly.... did you see that sponsored post I did yesterday. I am back in the game folks! Back to writing about things or people who bug me. (Half joking people... so no need to tweet to me about what a "sad person" I am.) And back to working!
Speaking of that sponsored post, I teamed up with Betty Crocker, Hershey's and Shaw's Supermarket to create a holiday dessert. The point of the post was to say... "Hey, are you too busy today to bake that super awesome, 100% from scratch cake for the Christmas party? Don't fret.... Betty has got you covered. Use a mix. the world won't end, and guess what? I bet most your guests won't know the difference!"
I am a big fan of baking... obviously. Hello... "Bakeaholic Mama" However, I am a busy mom. I have got shit to do. As much as I want to create from scratch things, 7 days a week and be a super human. I just can't! Sometimes I do use a cake mix. *Gasp* I KNOW! But does the group of 20, 4 year olds know that you did not slave away for hours making that birthday cake? No they do not care... they are just going to eat the frosting and sprinkles anyways.
So when a friend of the family made a snide comment on a blog post I worked hard on.... the first sponsored post in 13 months... about the fact that I used cake mix. I started to lose my mind a little. I'm not sure where she gets off making any sort of comment about things of that nature. Does it make her feel better about herself? To make a nasty comment about something someone is earning a living doing... or something that someone created is just mean. There is no excuse... it is just straight up mean.
Honestly I am proud of that cake mix cake.... I took something simple and made it MINE. That was not an average Betty Crocker cake... that was a Bakeaholic Mama cake, it was me. I mean... I put rosemary in my salted caramel sauce for goodness sakes. Pretty much my favorite thing to do these days....
Chicken, caramel sauce, pork.... lamb chops..... sangria. Rosemary is the best of all unsmokable herbs.....*did I really just go there?*
So after stewing over the nasty comment (left by a Trump fan... so you get the picture of who I'm dealing with here...) I decided it was time for some cocktails..... with guess what! ROSEMARY.
Also have you ever noticed that rosemary is even in my blog design? It is not a problem, I promise... yet.
Ruby Red Rosemary Sparkling Sangria
1 bottle of extra dry champagne
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tbs honey
1/2 cup water
5 sprigs of fresh rosemary (additional for garnish)
The juice of 3 large ruby red grapefruits
1 grapefruit for garnish, sliced thin
Fresh rosemary for garnish
In a sauce pan over medium heat, add water, sugar, honey and 5 sprigs or rosemary together. Bring it to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer just until all the sugar has completely dissolved and it smells strongly of rosemary.
Remove from heat, and set aside to cool.
In a large pitcher, combine champagne, your rosemary syrup that you made previously, ruby red juice, extra slices of grapefruit and fresh sprigs of rosemary.
Serve cold, or over ice.
