Violet Gin Fizz

My stomach is in knots, I can't sleep, I keep giggling with excitement.  Tomorrow morning I'm heading to Boston to board a plane that takes me to Miami! BlogHer Food 2014  starts Friday morning and I CAN NOT WAIT.

I am not a person who has a ton of friends "in real life." My closest pals are other food bloggers that live across the country, Michigan, Deleware, Colorado, Texas, California... It's rather impossible to hang out with them, especially at the same time. Typically the only time I get to hang out with my food and social media obsessed friends is if I attend a sponsored blog events or a blog conference. This only happens once or twice a year for me.

Blog conferences like BlogHer Food are a great way to network and market your blog or brand. It's also a place to learn from some of the top social media and foodie people in the business. Not to mention we get to eat a  lot of food.

This year, my long time client Davidson's Safest Choice is sending me to the conference on their behalf.
I could not think of a better company to represent. As most of you know I have done a lot of work with them over the last couple years and swear by their eggs. What makes Davidson's Safest Choice Eggs so special?
Well they are pasteurized. So I can actually just crack and drink them if I really wanted to. They are completely safe to consume raw. This is great when it comes time to make things that call for meringue, or perhaps you have children baking with you and they like to eat the brownie batter? Or maybe you like classic cocktails like a Royal Gin Fizz
Tomorrow night I will be hosting a get together with 30ish other bloggers down in Miami and I will be whipping up some of my favorite cocktails that contain raw egg. One of my newest favorites is this Violet Gin Fizz.  It's sweetened with a violet scented lime syrup mixed with some gin, egg white and topped off with club soda. It's the perfect pretty spring cocktail.

Violet Gin Fizz

Ingredients:
2 oz dry gin
2 oz violet  syrup (recipe to follow)
1 Davidson's Safest Choice egg white
club soda to top it off
Directions:
In a cocktail shaker, pour gin, & syrup and shake vigorously until foamy.
Pour (straining ice) into your glass. Top off with club soda.
To make the syrup, pick several handfuls of violets ( I have tons growing in my yard). Remove stems and all green parts and add  one cup of the purple blossoms to a large jar with 1 cup of boiling water, 2 cups of sugar 1/4 cup lime juice and 1/4 cup smashed blueberries (for color) OR a drop of violet food coloring.  Give the mixture a quick stir and cover.  Allow the mixture to steep for about 24 hours in the refriderator. Strain the flowers and berries and use remaining liquid as desired.
(Disclaimer: I wrote this post on behalf of Davidson's Safest Choice. They are providing me with a sponsorship to BlogHer Food 2014, however all opinions expressed are 100% my own. )
