Hard Apple Cider Sangria

Every once in awhile I might post a small silly complaint on my Facebook fan page. Something like "My kids are giving me gray hair today!" or "Ahhh my daughter is giving up on her naps" I'm a woman. I'm a mother. I'm busy, I'm flat out exhausted so many days.

Want to know the wrong thing to say to a mom when she is having one of those moments?

"Enjoy it now. It goes so fast." Now I know that type of response  means well. But honestly... I kinda want to punch you in the face right now. I haven't slept more than 4 hours in I don't know how long. I want to take a shower without a TWO kids in there with me. (yes.... the 2 youngest ones weasel their way in) and then my oldest standing in the door.... MOM I need you to make me something to eat! I know you all think I should be enjoying it now, and believe me I am. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. But those moments suck.

And dammit I just want someone to listen to me whine!

Really, I do love my kids more than I can put into words. There is nothing I wouldn't do for them. But seriously, they drive me to drink.

Every night I allow myself to have 1 drink when my husband gets home from work. ON a really bad night maybe two. Sometimes  I like to add something special to my nightly drink. Typically I am a straight up cider girl. I love craft ciders. It makes me so happy to see all these cideries popping up all over New England  putting out truly delicious and unique drinks.

Woodchuck Hard Cider is probably the most well known in this area. They are based out of Vermont so of course I am a loyal New England customer and swear by them. They recently sent me a sample of their new Dry Hop Cider, it's infused with hops so it has a unique flavor. It's a nice dry cider and a change from the sweet ones I usually consume.  Not exaggerating when I say it was probably my favorite cider of all time. Only problem is I have yet to find a store near me that carries it. Major bummer.

For now this Hard Cider Sangria is a nice treat, it's sweet, refreshing and perfect for this fall weather we are having on the East Coast.

Hard Apple Cider Sangria

Ingredients:
1 cold 12 oz bottle of hard cider ( I prefer to use something sweet like Woodchuck  Amber)
1 oz apple brandy
1/2 cup regular apple cider
1 tsp maple syrup
Thinly sliced apples
1 cinnamon stick.

Directions:

Mix both types of cider, syrup and brandy together. Serve cold over thinly sliced apples and a cinnamon stick.

Yields two servings.

  1. Carrie, This is Laugh-Out-Loud brilliant writing. And the recipe/photo is totally beautiful too! I know exactly what you mean. And yes I agree that saying it goes fast is the wrong thing.

    1. Lol.... I was a tad over tired and cranky when I wrote it. Perhaps too harsh by saying I want to punch people in the face.... haha.

  3. You just wrote what I've often thought! It never makes a tired mom feel better does it? Like salt in a wound lol.

I'm due with my 3rd child in just over a week. I'm happy as can be but will be just a bit happier when I can have my first hard apple cider of the season! Love this drink you created here!

  4. Oh my gosh, that shower story is hilarious! I mean, I don't have kids but that might drive me to a drink (or three), too. :)

In any case, pass me a glass of this yummy sangria! I'm all about the cider this season.

  8. Every mama has times they need a break, and as my daughter calls it, "Mama Juice." I've never been one for hard ciders but you opened my eyes to try. I love apples, seems like I should love hard cider.

    1. Yes!!! My kids call wine Mama Juice and beer is Daddy Juice. When I drink a beer it's always "That is just for daddies.... why can you have it?"
