If you all remember about a year ago I posted a recipe for Lobster Macaroni and Cheese. It was my first attempt at boiling a live lobster.I have never felt so cruel. You see, I don't eat lobster so If I subject myself to that sort of evil... it is all for the sake of my husband. He loves me. So I kill innocent sea creatures for him.
Then it dawned on me. Boiling your own live lobster is totally unnecessary if you want just a cup of cooked meat. They have people who can do that for you... AND remove it from the shells.
I admit I'm not too quick. This time however I was, and I bought some precooked meat to make my husband some "Lobstah Salad"
Lobstah... why is it that we New Englanders feel the need to drop our R and add an H to words? I recently saw the most hilarious funny on facebook. If you are not familiar with the New England vernacular, you may not find as entertaining. When someone from Boston hears.... "I lost my khakis" They think you are saying CAR KEY's instead of a pair of tan pants, because when we pronounce "Car Keys" it's "CAAAH KEYS" Or "KHAKIS"
So I'm going to share my Lobstah Salad Roll with you all, after I find my khakis and paaahk my Caaah.
........I'm funny.....
New England Lobster Salad Roll
Ingredients:
4 hot dog buns
2 tbs of butter
1.5-2 cups of cooked lobster meat
3 tbs mayonnaise
the juice of half a lemon
a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 clove of minced garlic
1/4 cup diced celery
3 tbs diced scallions
shredded iceberg lettuce for serving
Directions:
In a medium bowl mix together lobster, mayo, lemon, cayenne, garlic, celery and scallions. Once combined set aside.
In a medium fry pan over medium heat. Butter the sides of your hot dog bun. It is important to use the kind pictured in my photos. The ones with the flat sides!
Fry each hotdog bun until crisp and golden brown. Place shredded lettuce in the bottom of each bun and top with lobster salad.

I love lobster salad! I'm dreaming of summers spent in Maine :)
ReplyDeleteI am dreaming of summer too! We just got a foot of snow and it's still coming down in NH.
DeleteI fell in love with lobster rolls when I went to Maine last year for the first time, I am so excited about this recipe! I think I know what I might be adding to our Easter weekend lunch! Thank you so much for the recipe!

I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteI know I will! I am surprising my husband he fell in love with them too! Thank you again!
DeleteI have been saying for the past 3 years that I really want to make lobster rolls. After I saw this post and picture you have me craving it again. I might just have to go get some lobster.
ReplyDeleteGo get yourself some lobster then! I personally hate the stuff haha. But my husband goes nuts for it.
DeleteHoly crap - I need to make this like now! Maybe I can call in sick to work, pick up some lobster and eat this...
ReplyDeleteHahaha, call out of work.
DeleteLol - Carrie, you ARE hilarious. This post made me laugh, especially the part about killing innocent sea creatures. I'm Chinese so I'm used to eating weird animals and seeing my mom bring home live creatures and killing them before eating. D-e-licious! Although, I've never killed a live lobster before. Could I do it? For this sammich, I probably could! This looks soooooo good - I haven't had a lobster roll in ages. I'm going to take a cue from Chung-Ah and leave work sick now...
ReplyDeleteGives me the heebie jeebies. I just want to pretend my meat was not once a living animal. So to actually DO the killing.... in a pot of boiling water. Pretty sure I'm going to hell.
DeleteOh Carrie, this look like my kind of sandwich. I love lobster so much and we get quite a lot of seafood here in Maryland. I need to treat us to some fresh lobster soon b/c I have to make these! Kevin will just love them too. Thank you for sharing it girl! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Sally! I'm such a weirdo, we have so much seafood living in New England but I rarely like any of it!
DeleteOMG! I remember that post! And your pic with the lobster! lol This sandwich looks amazing! Love the shots!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Such guilt a year later.
Deleteque rico
ReplyDeleteOh dear, this just screams summer in New England! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt does!
Deleteoh my gosh. I feel bad about eating lobster too because they are 7 yrs old, at least. awww but damn they are so yummy. Love lobster rolls!
ReplyDeleteIt goes for any type of meat.... just can't think about it!
DeleteLobster rolls are literally in my top five favorite foods, and it is SO annoying that they don't sell those flat-sided hot dog buns in Virginia. Or maybe it's a good thing, because I'd probably indulge in lobster rolls all the time if the buns were readily available! These look absolutely delicious!
ReplyDeleteOh man! I love those buns, that's what I use for all of my hotdogs or salad rolls.
DeleteI'm with you, I just go with the tail. It doesn't taste as good, but it's worth a small dip in flavor to not have to kill it yourself. Plus, live lobsters on the West Coast are crazy expensive, you can buy puppies cheaper (strange comparison, I know). AND, how gorgeous are those photos?! Great job, lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We totally take advantage of lobster being cheap up here. I think it's $5/lb so my husband gets it all too often.
DeleteHahahha, khakis! The US is a funny place, accent-wise.
ReplyDeleteGlad someone thought it was funny hahaha.
DeleteOh, yum....totally drooling all over my computer right now! This looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Autumn!
DeleteThis looks so yummy! I love lobster but have never had it prepared like this. can't wait to try it, my mouth is watering!
ReplyDeleteI love lobster rolls, but I'm with the others that say it's so costly, could you sub crab meat instead and still get a good sandwich ?
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY! I actually prefer crab... I don't like lobster yet I eat crab... I'm a weirdo ;)
