I received some awesome news the other day. Joy *MIGHT* be working on a book signing date this winter in Boston. WOOHOO.
I'm not going to lie, I was a little bummed when I read she was in Maine last week. Then to top it off. Guess where she is doing a demo in 2 weeks.... King Arthur Flour! For those of you who don't follow them, or read their newsletter. The weekend of the 22nd they are hosting their grand opening to celebrate the new, store, school and cafe in Norwich, VT. Joy is just one of the many appearances through out the weekend.
Guess where I will be on the 22nd?? in Ohio. (on a side note anyone in the Columbus area? shoot me your restaurant suggestions!) Seriously, the ONE weekend I'm traveling out of town she is going to be at one of my favorite places in the world just a a hop skip away from my home. *sigh*
I'm still getting over this as you can tell. The word bummed doesn't even sum it up!
Maybe by some stroke of luck she'll be at Mixed Conference in November. Are you a blogger? Are you attending??
I am!! I'm flying down to VA and rooming with my bloggy Comfortably Domestic for the weekend. I'm excited to meet so many blogging friends, like Wanna be a Country Cleaver, Table for Two, Savory Simple, Pastry Chef Online.... not to mention the ladies behind the conference Doughmestic and bell’alimento.
Oh and a cake decorating class by ... Duff from Ace of Cakes. And get this... we are staying at the resort Dirty Dancing was filmed at! Ridiculous. I can't even contain my excitement. Despite my jumping out of the skin excitement... I'm also freaking the fudge out! I hate to fly. Really really don't want to do it! I'm going to have to be drinking gin straight, and have a stash of chocolate just to keep my mind of the fact that I'm god knows how many feet above ground.
So yeah, despite my total disappointment in not getting to see Joy at the grand opening of KAF, she *MIGHT* be coming to Boston, and I have Mixed Conference to look forward to. All fun and big things on the blog front!
This week for Sundays with Joy, we made Chili Cheese Fries. Joys method to get the seasoning to stick to the fry and for them to crisp up is quite genius actually. I've never thought to do this!.... toss in corn starch before baking! Smart right? They are packed with so much chili flavor, but actually have no chili on them! Then to make them out of this world and create the perfect game day food... smoother them in cheddar cheese!
This week, I did mine a tad different. But did not stray too much from the recipe. I cut my potatoes with my mandolin instead of cutting them into match sticks. I told you earlier this week how obsessed I am with my new favorite kitchen tool. Well folks get ready for a boat load of chip ideas coming your way!
First I dipped the cut potatoes in a worchestire sauce mixture, then dredged through a corn starch and chili spice mixture. Baked at 425 for about 10 minutes. Flip and baked for another 5. If you were doing fries you would bake them much longer. Then you want to smother them in cheese. Return to the oven until they are bubbly and gooey! Top with some scallions and call it snack time!
