Kettle Corn ~Sundays With Joy~

Friday I shared with you my favorite fair food. Fried dough. Today I have made one of my other favorites.

Kettle corn! It never even occurred to me up until I bought my copy of Joy the Baker Cookbook: 100 Simple and Comforting Recipes to even try making it!

Truth be told I am not a huge popcorn person. Just doesn't do it for me.

Though there is  an occasion where I simply can't help eating some old fashioned kettle corn or perhaps some caramel corn? It has to be sweet popcorn though.

The salty buttery soggy movie theater stuff? Yeah... no.

Microwave.... even worse! That fake butter is so darn yellow it freaks me out. That and I don't own a microwave. I know I'm a weirdo! I think they are the downfall to today's food. I have no desire to "zap" my food to cook it.

When you go to the fair you can buy HUGE bags of this kettle corn, enough to feed you and the whole fam while you walk around playing games looking at goats, or watching some demolition derbies.

OH how I can't wait for our local fair to open!

Joy's kettle corn is just so easy you have to try it, and it's truly addicting. This popcorn hater ate a huge bowl in a matter of minutes! The only thing I suggest with this recipe.. double it. Trust me! It has just the right amount of sweetness with a little added salt it's the perfect movie  night.

  1. Lovely, Carrie! And no microwave?? Wow! Good for you though, you've got some serious mommy skills to last without one.

    1. Thanks! And yes no microwave for well over a year now. I hate them! 1 they are big and ugly and take up space in my kitchen, 2 they kill flavor and texture, 3 Serious I swear someday they will say they cause cancer or something lol. The only thing I miss it for is reheating my coffee or softening butter.

  2. These pictures remind me of a time long ago when my family used to go to the drive-in movie. In order to keep costs down, we never bought popcorn at the concession stand, but brought a large grocery bag full of it. Everyone enjoyed our freshly-made popcorn all during the movie. :)

  3. Good on you for not using a microwave, Carrie! I use mine under VERY limited conditions (like for my morning oatmeal). Thanks for yet another great post!
