I have the cutest non food related story that I just have to share with you all.... though when Owen is 16 I'm sure he will be slightly embarrassed that I'm posting this on the Internet!
As I'm sitting here at 5 am with my oldest son cuddling on the couch writing my blog post. He chats away.
"Do sometimes boys call around to get a girlfriend on the phone?"
Well.... Sometimes boys call their girlfriends on the phone. When you find a girl that you like and she likes you. You can call her to talk.
"Well sometimes can Mama's call to find a girlfriend for boys?"
Well hun you can't really find a girlfriend on the phone. You need to meet them first.
"Oh well... do you think you can help me a find one? So I can call her on the phone? I've been waiting 60 yrs to find one! And I STILL haven't found one."
60 yrs?! Wow you have been waiting for the right girl for a long time bud! I can't really help you find one buddy. Once you become friends with someone you like you tell me and I'll help you call her on the phone.
"Well I just want one so bad and can't find one on my own!"....
The conversation continued from there for an hour as it is now 6 am.... this boy has allot of questions about girls and dating at the age of 5!
His dad was a bit of a ladies man at his age as well...
1992... At 8 years old, I had the biggest crush on a very cute blonde haired blue eye boy that looks exactly like my Owen.
By 1996 at a middle school dance I finally had the nerve to ask this blue eye boy "out" and to "dance" with me. Want to know what he said?
This blue eyed boy had a line of girls wanting to go "out"with him. He had a new girlfriend every 2 weeks!
He crushed my 6th grade heart! 4 years I had a crush on him...
Fast forward to 2000....
That blue eyed boy was now an awkward teenager with braces and not so many girlfriends rounding the block for a chance to dance.
I also had him wrapped around my finger by then. He was the one asking for the chance to go out with me.
Present day we are married with 3 kids.
Scary to think that I wasn't much older than Owen when I met my soulmate.
My boy is growing up too fast!
But now lets talk about this limeade.
I know.... awkward transition here!
There is nothing better than an ice cold summer drink when it is 95-100 degrees outside and grossly muggy!
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)
2 cups water
1 cup tonic water
In a sauce pan add sugar and 1/2 cup water. Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool to room temp.
In a pitcher mix lime juice, water and simple syrup together. Refrigerate until cold.
Pour into glasses w/ ice. Top off with tonic water.
**Want to make it grown up? Add a shot of gin or vodka.**
Makes about 4 servings.
