Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Pie

I have a bit of a baking problem... have you all noticed?

I have not polished of 4 layer cakes, and dozens of cookies I promise! I always have an occasion and if I don't have an occasion and I'm bit by the need to bake then I send it into my husbands work.

This pie however was a just because made especially for my husband.

When I want to show someone I care, or appreciate them. I bake pies, cakes or cookies.

It may not seem like a big deal to some but If I make something especially for you, allot of thought, care, and effort goes into it.

So you better eat it!

My husband had one slice of this pie... I went to bed.

And guess what...

He left it out on the counter. I found it the next day and threw it out.

Today, 2 days later, he asks. "Do we have any of that pie left, I really liked it!"

No you Dingle Head... You left it out! He says "Ohhhh I didn't know it had to go in the fridge."

Well, you'd think after being with a food obsessed women for 12 yrs you would know by now that whipped cream goes in the fridge.

Oh well... it was his pie he wasted!

I can't count how many times in a week this exact scenario gets played out. I get his dinner/dessert ready for him when he gets home around 9-9:30 at night. I go to bed, wake up the next day to find it on the counter still.

We rarely have left overs because the casseroles and pots of soup are always left out.

I think it's time I start staying up later so I can monitor the meals I lay out for him at night.

It's just one of those things he does that irks me.... we have something about our spouses that just makes you go AHHH.

Not that it makes me mad or anything, just something I get to pick on him about afterwards.

The one thing I do (purposely) to irk him is to only remove the tab on the half and half or OJ half pulled back.
I don't know why I do it... but it bugs him, he gives me hell at least once a week for. So I continue to do it just to bug him.

He also leaves wet towels on the bed....this also irks me. I often do not go upstairs in our room until bed time and when I go to lay down there is a damp towel on my pillow. That's not cool.

But then again I also SUCK at changing the litter box. This bugs him the most probably because he hates cats and the litter box is in his office....But he refuses to change it as well so we have a stinky day or 2 where we stand off on who will cave and change it.

It's always me. I ALWAYS change it!

I could go on and on about the things we do on purpose to bug each other... but I'll stop because you really don't need to know nor do you want a peak into our twisted marriage.

For whatever reason we work. I always say no one else would want us because we are to weird. So it's a match made in heaven. <3

An old picture from about 3 yrs ago... but you get the idea. Grumpy Hubs and me always kissing up!

Pie, Pie Pie.

That is what this post started out about... so here you go a super rich, chocolatey peanut buttery pie.

And guess what.... It's semi homemade... *Cringe* I know! But Hubs doesn't know this... he thought it was from scratch!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Pie

Ingredients:

1 cooked and cooled pie crust
1 package of cook and serve chocolate pudding mix
2 cups of half and half
1 egg
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

In a sauce pan whisk eggs, milk, and pudding mix together over medium low heat. Continue to whisk until it comes to a boil. Whisk in peanut butter.

When the Peanut Butter mixes into the pudding fully. Remove from heat. Cool for 5 minutes.
Pour into baked pie crust. Allow  to cool to room temperature.

In the bowl of your electric mixer mix heavy whipping cream on high until soft peaks form. Add in your powdered sugar and vanilla extract beat until stiff peaks form.

Spread whipped cream over cooled pie and then refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

** As an experiment I have also frozen this pie and served it frozen... it's like ice cream... and it is awesome!***

**Also try mixing 1 tbs of powdered sugar with 1 tbs of coco powder then sift it over the top... just one more layer of chocolate goodness!

  2. Great recipe! I love that you shared your irks. I have some too. Like, he does the dishes (which I'm not complaining about) and rinses out the sink...but doesn't run the disposal or clean the sponge. Day old broccoli is gross! ;)

  11. I love this pie! I have a husband who leaves things out too. Drives me nuts.

but... I have never called him a Dinglehead.

this will now replace, "what a f*wit!"

  12. Hi Carrie! I saw this recipe on Foodgawker and it looks delish! One question though. I do NOT like peanut butter, but I LOVE chocolate cream pie. I've never made it myself though (I'm not big on baking). Do you think if I followed this recipe but left out the peanut butter it would turn out ok? I just want to make sure that the peanut butter isn't vital to the consistency of the pie before I attempt to make it. Thanks so much!

  13. Mercedes, I normally make this pie without the Peanut Butter. That was a last minute add in. You can most certainly omit it and it will be YUM!
