A Healthy Brownie

I made a healthy Chocolate Brownie...

Do you believe me?

Well I did!

Not only is it gluten free it's filled with protein and fiber AND it is also right around 100 calories!

Yep it's true.

Now I won't like this brownie is not my favorite brownie on the planet. BUT it is a good brownie. The typical brownie is filled with butter and sugar. That is what makes it taste so good. I've found some healthy substitutes for the starch, fat, and reduced the sugar as well as used a natural sweetener in it's place.

If you ever find yourself in a chocolate mood but don't want the guilt of a traditional brownie. Give these a whirl. You won't be sorry!!

Black Bean and Avocado Brownies

1 15 oz can black bean drained and rinsed
1/2 an avocado
2 eggs
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 tsp  of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup of sugar
1 tbs instant coffee

Preheat oven to 350.

In your food processor add in avocado and beans. Puree.

Scrape into the bowl of your mixing bowl, beat in eggs, honey, and peanut butter.

Once that is combined mix in the remaining ingredients. Spread into a greased 8x8 pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a tooth pick is inserted and comes out clean.

  1. I need to try these brownies! My husband buys the WW ones and they are getting SO expensive. These look good!

  2. How many brownies are in an 8x8 pan ? Do you cut them small or large ?

  3. I cut them into 12 pieces... that is about 115 calories. If you do the larger sized... say 9 squares your around 150 calories. Give or take a few.

  4. I can't wait to try these, they look so yummy!

  5. What temp on the oven? Maybe I'm just missing it ;)

  6. 350! I'm fixing it now on the original thanks for catching the error =)

  7. Thanks! :) Making them right now!

  8. I noticed you stated they were high fiber. Did you calculate the grams of fiber?

    1. Beans are high in fiber. That's why I made that statement. Unfortunately at this time I do not provide the nutritional value calculations. If you'd like you can do your own calculations at or the various other calorie counter websites out there. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

  9. I just made these and my 8 year old twins love them. So do I. My husband, not so much. More for us!:-)

  10. Can I substitute anything for the avocado?

  11. Can I substitute anything for the avocado?

    1. You could try using mashed banana, or perhaps pumpkin puree. I can't guarantee the results but I think it will work ok ;)

  12. Anything I can substitute for the eggs? I've heard of applesauce but I worry it'll throw off the consistency and make them too watery.

    1. You can do a flax "egg" I do this in a lot of my vegan baking. It works well!

  13. Is this 115 calories per square or the entire dish?

  14. What about subbing the peanut butter with almond butter????

  15. I make these all the time and we (including my 9 year old twins) love them! Thanks for a great recipe!

  16. This is amazing! Everything I love in one recipe. I made my own version of there here :
    Hope you'll like it.
