Logical choice is french toast. But I don't want regular french toast. I am pregnant after all and when these cravings come on but I'm not really sure WHAT I'm craving it drives me and everyone else around me crazy!
My kids are behaving (sorta) playing together in their room, my husband is upstairs sleeping in. So I am going to make them the best breakfast they have ever feasted on!
Oh wait did I just say my kids were playing nicely in their rooms? Scratch that they have now parked it in front of the couch and are in a tug a war with a toy elephant (the giant 'daddy' Chase always carries around)
I think I'm going to ignore them.... and salivate while thinking of what I'm about to start cooking.
Best Ever ULTIMATE Stuffed French Toast w/Cinnamon Infused Maple Syrup
TOAST
Ingredients:
1/2 Loaf day old bread (I'm using a country cinnamon swirl) something like challah or brioche works well
3 eggs
3/4 cup half and half
1 tbs honey (warm it up if its too thick)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Directions:
Whisk all wet ingredients together till incorporated, warm the honey up for 10-20 secs in the microwave if its too thick. Put bowl in the fridge till you are ready for it.
Slice your bread loaf into 1/2 slices.
Cook for about 3 minutes per side. When done remove and place on parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
FILLING
Ingredients:
8oz cream cheese
1/4 chocolate chips (I am using semi sweet you can use dark or milk as well)
1 banana diced
Directions:
In a medium sauce pan, over medium heat heat cream cheese, chocolate, and till melted and smooth. Remove from heat and add in your diced banana folding carefully.
Smear the filling on a slice of the french toast and top with a 2nd piece of toast. Repeat this process till the bread and filling are gone.
Bake for about 5-10 minutes at 350.
MAPLE SYRUP
Ingredients:
1-1.5 cups maple syrup
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 tsp vanilla
Heat in a small sauce pan for about 5 minutes on medium low heat.
When the toast is ready dust with powdered sugar (optional) garnish with a pile of fresh berries. We had Strawberries today in our fridge. Drizzle with maple syrup. Though it really would be quite yummy all on its own now syrup needed!
My husband loved it and it really hit the spot for me as well... Owen said that his bacon dipped in maple syrup is so yummy... and Chase... well he picked some of the filling out sucked the chocolate/cheese off the bananas and ate his bacon and berries. The toast wasn't touched!

That looks super delicious. I have never tried to make french toast with honey or half & half -- will have to try this out on one of our cheat days :)
ReplyDeleteLike it really needed the extra sweetness added HA! But it was a splurge breakfast so why not?!
ReplyDeleteWhat could one use in place of the bananas?? This sounds so yummy and would really love to make it...except I'm allergic to bananas.
ReplyDelete@ Tea Witch, you could use almost anything! Sliced up strawberries or fresh raspberries would taste awesome with the chocolate cream cheese filling. You could skip the fruit and maybe do a pecan chocolate filling? We just happend to have bananas in the house that day so thats what I used.
ReplyDeleteMy boys and I are allergic to bananas. What would be some ideas of something to stuff this with instead?
ReplyDeleteI would use berries, or fresh cherry's if you have them where you live, almost any type of fruit would work. Or you can do nuts... and who said just straight up chocolate and cream cheese wouldn't be yummy!
